He who tries to divide the country will get his head divided - Army chief

Strict action will be taken against anyone who attempts to bring in separatism after being overjoyed from the results of the Northern Provincial Council election, says the Commander of the Sri Lanka Army, Lt. Gen. Daya Ratnayake.

The Army Commander made this comment while addressing the Army soldiers during a tour in Vavuniya. Army Commander pointed out that if a certain group, blinded by the victory received from the polls and thinking that they have got themselves a separate country, is trying to provoke the Army, then they will have to be severely dealt with.Stating that everyone will be able live happily until they live inside the frame of democracy, Gen. Ratnayake warned that if anyone tries to divide the country, their heads would part from their bodies first.
Reminding the Rathupaswala Army attack, the Army Commander further stated that strict action will also be taken against the soldiers who violate the military discipline, despite the rank. ( srilankamirror news)

එවැනි වැඩකරන්නට පැමිණි උදවියට උත්තර ලැබුණු හැටි ලෝකයටම ප්‍රදර්ශනය වූ බවත්, රට බෙදීමට පැමිණ ප්‍රභාකරන්ට සිදුවුණුදේ ද ලෝකයම දන්නා බවත් ඔහු සිහිපත් කළේය. එල්.ටී.ටී.ඊ සංවිධානය ආරක්ෂක අංශ විසින් භෞතිකව පරාජය කළද එහි යටිකූට්ටු වැඩ කළ අය, බුද්ධි අංශවල වැඩ කළ අය රට අභ්‍යන්තරයේත් ඉන් පිටතත් සිට බෙදුම්වාදය වෙනුවෙන් කටයුතු කරන බව හමුදාපතිවරයා පෙන්වා දුන්නේය.

Indictment to avoid British accusations

Attorney General Palith Perera is to submit indictment papers against six suspects including Tangalle PS member Sampath Chandra Pushpa Pathirana, who are accused of murdering British tourist Khuram Shaikh and raping his girlfriend.

After initial legal procedures with regard to the murder and rape were taken up in Tangalle Court, the case was transferred to the Colombo Magistrate Court. Also a direct indictment is to be forwarded to the High Court, without a non summary inquiry. According to embassy sources, British authorities have pledged to take up the issue of the murder after arriving at the island for the Commonwealth Heads of Government meeting (CHOGM).

The lack of justice delivered for the murder case has also created a negative impact on the CHOGM.

Several days earlier, it was reported that UK Prime Minister David Cameron has said he would personally raise concerns with Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa over the murder. According to embassy sources, UK's prince Charles too, has offered to help in the effort to win justice on the murder case.

British national Khuram Shaikh who was an employee of the Red Cross (ICRC) was brutally shot dead at a hotel in Tangalle on the Christmas Eve in 2011 and his girlfriend had to receive treatment from hospital due to sexual harassment . Chairman of Tangalle Local Council Sampath Chandra Pushpa was named chief suspect of the incident. ( News  by  Srilankamirror.lk )

Two men arrested for 'endangering an aircraft' after flight diverted to Stansted

British police arrested two men for endangering an aircraft on Friday evening after a Sri Lankan Airlines flight was diverted from London's Heathrow Airport to nearby Stansted.

The Sri Lankan Airlines A330 Airbus, which was carrying 267 passengers and crew, was due to land at Heathrow Airport but was diverted to the Essex airport just after 7.30pm.

The remaining passengers are being looked after at a reception centre at Stansted and are due to be transferred to Heathrow this morning. A spokesman for Stansted said last night: 'Stansted Airport can confirm a Sri Lankan Airlines Airbus A330 diverted into Stansted at approximately 7.30pm this evening.

'The aircraft, which was flying from Colombo to Heathrow, landed safely with Essex Police in attendance.’ The airport is open and flights are arriving and departing as normal.' A spokesman for Essex Police added: 'Essex Police officers boarded the aircraft and arrested two men on suspicion of endangering an aircraft.

'The passengers have been removed safely. Enquiries are ongoing.'
